I am not only running. As you know I have been organizing “One day in the forest” activities for some months. My goal is to show to my friends, the people I am training and my followers on social media how it is to spend a full day in the nature. During these days we are doing a three or four hours-hike, having organic breakfast and doing sport with tree trunks.
The hiking equipment is as important as the running one. When you are hiking you have a little more chance to get cold because you are moving less. For example, I almost never wear a wind stopper when running but I always wear one when hiking.
When going for a hike, it is important to wear multiple layers. If you are getting overheated, you can take out one layer and put it into your bag or tie it around your waist. In the same way, if you are getting cold, you can wear one or two layers more. The runners may know it, but the newcomer hikers may ignore it: do not wear cotton clothing when sweating because once moist cotton dries difficulty. And then you will start to feel cold immediately. Technical clothing when moist dries quick and avoid your body getting cold.
During my last hike, I tried some equipment from Jack Wolfskin: 1 red Active Zip Shirt, 1 blue Texapore 2-layers jacket, 1 grey Volcano Mid Texapore hiking shoes and the MOAB JAM 30 bag. Today I will talk about the clothing parts and next week about the shoes and the bag.
As a first layer, I wore the red Active Zip Shirt and on it I putted on the Texapore 2-layers jacket. I didn’t wear anything else on my upper body. The Active Zip Shirt is an extremely breathable, long-sleeve fleece base layer. When sweating, it rapidly wicks moisture away to the exterior, where it can evaporate quickly. So the body never stays wet. This shirt should be worn directly on the skin. In short, this fabric keeps the body warm, regulates the temperature and eliminate the moist. Additionally, the fabric also naturally prevents odors from forming. This is really an important thing. A lot of technical fabric protects you from the moist but they are smelling really bad.
When being in movement, I started to get a little bit too warm with the Active Zip Shirt and the Texapore Jacket, so I took the polar out. The Texapore jacket is really an ergonomic product. The zips and the press stud buttons located in three different places keep together the polar and the wind stopper parts together. I putted the polar into my bag. The wind stopper jacket is light and has a net lining inside. On the hood, there are two zips: one around it and another one in the middle of the head. The one in the middle of the head maintains the hood on the head and avoids it to fall down in front of the eyes. It is a very useful detail. The polar is made from a very soft fabric. It particularly keeps you warm. You can wear the two parts together or separately. For example, I do wear very often the wind stopper part only as a jacket in the daily life and in the evening when sitting on my balcony I wear only the polar part.
The Texpore materials are breathable, wind and waterproof. The jacket is light and its cut is neither to close-fitting nor too wide: you look nice and on the same time you can move easily : ) In a technical point of view I really like this jacket. Extra: you have two jackets in one : )
